Recycling is the third step. It means to transform something useless into something useful again through reprocessing. So instead of throwing away that milk jug, why not recycle it so it can be turned into plastic lumber or buckets, for example? Recycling saves the need to use fresh materials during product manufacturing.

Top Tips

  • Sign up for Curbside Pickup

With the new EPR coming through, our public drop-off will be closing. Read all about the upcoming changes here. You can still drop your recycling at your local transfer station or sign-up for Whitehorse’s Blue Bins Curbside Collection.

  • Recyclean - Means it Must be Clean

Dirty recycling is contaminated recycling, which ends up being trash. To ensure your recycling gets processed, please give it a clean before you drop it off. It doesn’t need to sparkle but a good rinse with water and soap will do to ensure all bits of food/oil and dirt are gone. When we have to trash recyclables, it costs us, not just for our operations but for the environment. Let’s do better, together.

  • Avoid "Wishcycling"

Wishcycling is when we put non-recyclable items in the recycling bin, hoping that it’ll get recycled. Sometimes it feels like there’s a lot to recycling but what might be true for larger centres isn’t true for our facility as we hand sort all our materials. Check out our What Can I Recycle pages to find exactly what items are and aren’t accepted. Call us if you’re still confused. We would love to help you, help us, so we all can help the planet.
