Reuse is the second step. It means to find ways to use things we would otherwise throw out. A lot of the things we have, have more to give. Giving our stuff an extra lease on life through repair, regeneration or donation helps save valuable resources from the landfill. You know what they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Top Tips

  • Donate What You Don't Need

When you’re looking to get rid of old clothing, shoes and accessories, first consider donating them. Come by Raven’s Reuseful Thursdays between 9 AM to 5 PM to donate. We accept used items in good condition. Or check out the many other local non-profit organizations in the Whitehorse Reuse Guide as well as thrift and consignment stores that occasionally take donations of used clothing.

  • Don't nix it, fix it!

Our community has wonderful resources and skilled folks who can help fix stuff. Dr. Google also has some helpful tips if you’re open to that sort of thing. To repair is to replenish. A sense of accomplishment is an added bonus. Check out the Whitehorse Reuse Guide in our Resources section for where to reduce, reuse and repair in Whitehorse. Also, feel free to come on by our e-waste yard to salvage electronics (all but computers, we donate those to Computers for Schools Yukon).

  • Reuse Packaging

Find ways to reuse common packaging like cardboard boxes, plastic bags from grocery items or gift wrap. For example, turn your cardboard boxes into organizing bins (even paint or cover them in fabric for a stylish touch); give bags a quick rinse and bring them back to the grocery store for a second tour around the produce aisle; and hold yourself back from ripping up that nice gift wrap and use it for the next time you give, or better yet, turn old newspaper into a wrap that’s both good for the environment and informative!

Exploring Zero Waste

Through Art

The Yukon is a breeding ground for creativity! And what better way to spur creative thought and start conversations about Zero Waste than by digging through the recycling pile. Learn about our Artists in Residency program.
